Exilis: The real slim shady
by Faz Abdul Gaffa
There comes a time in a woman’s life where you stare at the mirror, not recognising who’s staring right back at you. Suddenly, you see everything that’s wrong – or everything women’s magazines tell you to fix – whether it’s laugh lines, multiple chins, or boobs that hang all the way down to your navel after having had three kids.
While I’ve got a few more good years before I weep over a bottle of Nutella, reminiscing my long lost youthful, boutiful booty, I welcome new technology that will ensure I spend a little less time on Photoshop before I post my vacation photos on the web.
Exilis, a non-invasive technology for wrinkle reduction, skin tightening and body contouring was first brought in to Singapore late last year by Mendis Aesthetics & Surgery, the device allows for reshaping of targeted areas, which basically means that this will work like a charm for all those spots that don’t budge despite your busting your booty at the gym.
The best part? No needles, no knives, no downtime. In fact, you can zip in-and-out during your lunch hour and still have time to grab a sandwich from Subway to go.
Dr Rohan at Mendis Aesthetics & Surgery suggested that I try Exilis on my jawline, just so I can see the results better. I was prepped by two of the clinic’s staff – they removed my makeup and slathered cold gel on my skin while I lay down on a bed. With Dr Rohan overlooking the procedure, they ran a wand from the Exilis machine over my cheek, under my jaw, to the other cheek and back again. The wand was hot – at 40 degrees Celsius, and it felt searing at several points, particularly when it was passed under my jawline. You can have the aestheticans lower the temperature if it was too hot for you.
While you only go through two five minute sessions whilst lying flat on the bed, for people like me who suffer from the white coat syndrome (which basically means I have a phobia of anything medical-related), it proved to be the longest ten minutes of my life.
The results however, are incredible. See for yourself:
Left: Me, looking like a dork at Universal Studios; Right: Me, after the first Exilis treatment. One side of my face is bigger than the other because of a surgery I did on my teeth a few years ago.
The best part of Exilis is that it can be used for just about anywhere: from your triceps, to love handles (or hate handles, rather), even right down to your calves and ankles.
I went back for a second treatment, and they managed to take down the right side of my face too, making my facial shores almost symmetrical:
Looks like the Liquify tool on Photoshop and I are parting ways for now.
Exilis is available at Mendis Aesthetics & Surgery and costs $1,500 for two sessions, no matter which part of your body you’re looking to take down. Mendis Aesthetics & Surgery is located at 333A Orchard Road, #04-17 Mandarin Gallery; 6235 1728.
